Over the past thirty years, Ruddington Local History and Amenity Scoiety has researched and disseminated many aspects of Ruddington's history.

Archaeological investigation at Flawford, site of Ruddington's mother church, first aroused interest in the history of the village.

In 1968, The Society founded the Hermitage Museum to display the Flawford artefacts. A second museum was opened in 1979 to display the growing social and commercial history collection. The Hermitage closed in 1991 and all the Society's activities are now based at the Village Museum in St. Peter's Rooms, in the centre of the village.

The Society holds a winter series of lectures and a summer programme of events and outings. Research is ongoing by both individuals and formal research groups. A current project involves research into the former Ordnance Supply and Disposal Depot to the south of the village.
